Archery Team

On September 12, 2016

Parents and students, Archery tryouts are approaching fast and I wanted to get a little info out there for you.

  1. Our selections for the team will be based on the scores students shoot during tryouts. The first couple of days will be procedural days discussing range safety, proper bow usage and proper shooting technique. We will then move into shooting typical rounds at 10 meters and 15 meters. At this point we will cover scoring and begin to keep track of scores. We will be keeping track of scores and the top 24 students will be selected by criteria we have established beforehand. Therefore students need to attend as many sessions as they can so they can get the maximum amount of practice time and scoring. The scores will be an extremely important part of the selection but we also have expectations about grades, behavior and willingness to learn.
  2. Your student does not need their own equipment to participate but if they do have it they can use it at tryouts as long as it is the Genesis Original bow. Students cannot use any other type of bow. If you have a question about a bow please email me at tfulmer@lexington1.netand I would be glad to answer questions. As far as transportation to school and back for bows I would suggest talking with your Administration at CSMS for their recommendations. Please make sure you are always following the rules.
  3. Please always wear closed toe shoes during tryouts and anyone with long hair should have something to tie it back with to avoid getting tangled with anything.
  4. Make sure that your student understands that their behavior at practice also will be very important. Behavior issues will not be tolerated. And we do not want distractions with electronics at practice. Even things like how well students help setup and tear down will go into our decision.
  5. We are excited about Archery coming to CSMS and as of now we have no idea what the turnout will be for tryouts. Flexibility will be very important for students and parents. We will try our very best to finish on time but if we are running a few minutes late, please be patient. Also we may have to revise schedules based off of the quantity of students we have tryout.
  6. Lastly please remind your student that we have only 24 spots on the team and that even though they may try their best, they might end up outside the top 24. But, they are not defined by Archery. Archery is just an activity they can do for fun. Our students are defined by our character and the way we treat others. Our goal is to have a team of quality archers and people. We want them to be respectful and have good grades and be good servants to other people. I am proud to say that everyone that is returning to our high school team this year is an Academic Archer. That means they have met the grade and discipline requirements we have set for the team and they are nationally recognized for their accomplishments. To win at Archery is one thing but to win at life is another.
  7.   Tryout dates have been released and they are:

    a.       Thursday, Sept. 15 from 3:45-5:45, WKHS Café

    b.      Friday, Sept. 16 from 4:30-6:30, WKHS Café

    c.       Friday, Sept. 23 from 4:30-6:30, WKHS Café

    d.      Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9:00-11:30, CSMS Gym

    f.        Saturday, Oct. 1 from 9:00 -11:30, CSMS Gym

The reason we are having to hold the tryouts here at White Knoll High School is due to the gym at the middle school not being available. Practice space is always hard to find and so we will try our best to combine practices where we can with the high school team.

There is a flyer available in the CSMS office with the tryout dates.
